Why Social work?
Social Work is a profession focused in helping people to function the best they can in their environment. It aims to help them in taking independent informed decisions in matters related to their lives.
Through this process people are empowered to find positive ways to address challenges and to reach their goals.
Social work is extremely beneficial at community level, as much in remote areas as in cities, at small group level and also in families.
Social Work is different from social services: while the first generates empowerment the second can lead to dependency.
Having good social workers help the Society at large in developing towards people’s goals and in reaching a sustainable empowerment.

Why Care-taking?
Care Giving is the process of taking care of people in need, due to their instable health condition and to limitations both physical or psychological.
Through the process of “care giving”, a dependent person is helped and nurtured at home or in a residential facility with love, care and empathy.
It requires professionalism, skills and commitment that can be learnt and acquired through a proper training.
Our societies, earlier mostly in foreign countries but now also in Sri Lanka, are getting older and busier: here the professional role of care-taker is essential and highly needed.
